Planning - Reflection on moderator's report
Brief : Television and online
1. You have to have a good understanding of structural codes and conventions which have to meet the needs of the target audience, for example, show off technical abilities - controlled camera work and lighting, animated title sequences and strong editing of the sound and visuals.
2. Think wisely about casting, they have to be comfortable in front of the camera in order to make it look more authentic.
3. Think about the way you are going to incorporate and represent different social groups within the brief.
4. Choose a range of appropriate mis-en-scene, to get the higher marks, this makes it look realistic and would fit the codes and conventions of BBC Three documentaries - usually shot in a range of locations.
5. For the online website, look at 'real world' examples of BBC Three web pages, and make it clear that you have looked at these by applying conventions similar to what they have onto your own work.
6. Keep in mind that the website is worth as much as the documentary, so use a range of original photography and copy, be creative and sophisticated and always think about who the target audience is.
7. When using Wix, personalise all elements of it with technical sophistication and make sure all of the parts of the website are linked together in a cohesive way to help establish brand identity.
8. With digital convergence, place emphasis pn mutual promotion, promote one product across another form for example - a call to action to the audience or some kind of viewer interaction.
9. Remember to use original audio or visual on the website too as this will lose marks if you don't!
10. Overall, make sure both the website AND the documentary link together cohesively and do not seem like two completely different products otherwise you can't get into the higher band.
